(March 2006-Present) Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the WTO, Geneva, Switzerland
Title: Commercial (First) Secretary
Working as negotiator for Pakistan in the Doha Development Agenda negotiations of the WTO. Primarily dealing in the areas of Agriculture (AoA) and Intellectual Property (TRIPS).
Developed and submitted a negotiating proposal that changed direction of negotiations in the area of Special Products (agriculture) under the WTO/DDA negotiations.
Coordinating Pakistan’s negotiation position through consistent liaison and dialogue with stakeholders like government ministries and departments, private sector, civil society organizations, think tanks and media.
Representing Pakistan in the WTO committees and related work for the agreements on Agriculture, SPS, TBT, Import Licensing, Government Procurement, State Trading Enterprises and TRIPS.
 Working as liaison officer on behalf of Pakistan’s mission for textile monitoring body, international trade centre (ITC), ICSTD, South centre and similar organizations.
(April 2005 – February 2006) USAID Iraq Economic Growth and Employment Generation Project (IZDIHAR)
Title: WTO Accession Advisor
Advised the Government of Iraq for Market Access opportunities and adopting a trade policy in conformance with the multilateral obligations.
Prepared the Memorandum on Foreign Trade Regime (MFTR, the basic document for WTO accession) for Iraq to be submitted to the World Trade Organization especially the chapters on Intellectual Property (TRIPS) and Services (GATS)
 Lead the Trade Policy component for IZDIHAR project.
 Advised the Government of Iraq on Intellectual Property and Services areas throughout the accession process and institutional building for the implementation period.
Developed the revised Copyright law for Iraq.
Advised and helped in establishing the specialized organization for Government of Iraq dealing with Intellectual Property Rights and a coalition of Service industries in Iraq.
Conducted capacity building and awareness activities for public and private sector stakeholders dealing with WTO issues particularly agreements on TRIPS and GATS.
(November 2001- April 2005) WTO Wing, Ministry of Commerce, Islamabad, Pakistan
Title: Section Officer (World Trade Organization)
Conducted analysis and took implementation steps for the WTO agreements in Pakistan. I was specialized in GATS, Agreement on Agriculture (AOA), DSU & TRIPS.
Updated the local Laws, regulations and policies in order to bring these in conformance with WTO regime, e.g. Pakistan Trade Marks Rules 2004.
 Prepared Pakistan’s Schedule of Commitments (after analysis and consultations with stakeholders) under GATS (Services) negotiations for submission to the WTO.
Team member involved in updating old intellectual property laws in order to bring these in conformity with WTO/TRIPS requirements. Worked specifically on laws for Geographical Indications, Plant Breeders rights and Optical media piracy.
 Member of the team that drafted the law for Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan.
 Assisted in formulation of Trade Policy to get maximum development aspect out of it. Drafted segments related to WTO issues.

Worked as coordinator of the WTO Wing on the Pakistan Trade Policy Project by DFID EU & ITC.

(August 2000 – November 2001) Board of Investment, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad, Pakistan
Title: Assistant Director (Americas & Europe)
Dealt with Foreign Investment in Pakistan from Americas & European Regions. Worked with the foreign investors to deal with regulatory and related issues.
Conducted financial analysis of various industrial and services sectors in order to develop the investment policies for subject sectors.
 Coordinated the feasibility studies for various potential sectors for foreign investment.
Worked as team member for execution, implementation and review of Investment Policy of Pakistan.
Arranged two investment road shows for Pakistan in Germany and UK in December 2000.
 Coordinated the Asian Development Bank’s TEPI project for BOI.
(January 2000 – August 2000) Foreign Trade Institute of Pakistan, Islamabad

Completed the specialized professional training program for Commerce & Trade Group titled as “Foreign Trade & Commercial Diplomacy”. It was compulsory study/on the job training for civil services officers.

 Completed the Civil Services training program for newly recruited civil services officers. The program covered various areas of civil services including administration, economy, public policy and management.

Worked on accounting/ financial reporting and auditing of various entities in private sector, public companies, NGOs, Multinationals, and Government Corporations etc.
Worked on taxation management and compliance, pleading of the various levels of tax clients ranging from individual to Multinationals and big projects.
Provided management consultancy to different clients of private and public sectors.
Led team for a special audit and evaluation assignment for a hydal dam project (USD 80 million).
